Lost Communication

Lost Communication

Trident devices are passive in their communication and will heartbeat at regular intervals. Within the Trident Platform, you can view the last heartbeat on the summary tab of a device details page.
Alarm messages are sent at the time of alarm and not dependent on a heartbeat.

Heartbeat intervals vary by device.
  1. SBS 1x every 30 second
  2. Hub 1x every 5 minutes
  3. Sensor 1x every 60 minutes
  4. Valve Controller 1x every 5 minutes
The device heartbeat mode is a variable that can be adjusted for endpoints (sensors/valve controllers)

A device will report Lost communication after X missed heartbeats.
  1. SBS- 10 missed heartbeats = 5 minutes
  2. Hub- 2 missed heartbeats = 10 minutes
  3. Sensor- 2 missed heartbeats = 2 hours
  4. Valve Controller- 2 missed hearbeats = 10 minutes
If a SBS or Hub reports lost communication, this will impact other devices.
  1. An SBS lost communication will impact ALL other devices on the system.
  2. If a Hub reports lost communication, this will impact all child devices. This Hub is called the primary hub and devices heartbeat to it.
An endpoint that reports lost communication may recover on its own as it will automatically re-register and attempt to find a new primary hub to heartbeat into. This process may take a few hours. To perform a manual re-registration, see the re-register a device solution article below.
